Abstract (EN)

Throughout history, people have suffered from natural events, wars, economic, political, etc. for different reasons. They have been in spatial mobility accordingly. This mobility has had an impact on the spatial and social structure of settlements as well as on people. The transformation caused by physical distance brought about by the earthquake disasters and pandemic process experienced in our country in recent years has also affected the physical texture of the built environment. In addition to the horizontal architectural demands due to the earthquake effect, as well as the pandemic effect, it has been understood how critical access to open and green spaces is for life. Rural settlements located in line with the development direction of the city are areas that can be considered as "potential urban lands". For these reasons, the desire for safer and greener open areas close to the city center causes an increase in housing demands in these areas. As a result of increasing demands, non-agricultural population and construction are increasing in rural areas. Settlement morphology is also beginning to transform in rural areas that are beginning to urbanize with the pressure of construction. The aim of this study is to explain the change process of Şıralık settlement, which was rural and located on the city periphery before gaining neighborhood status, with the effects of earthquake and pandemic. As this rural settlement began to be integrated into the city center, its surroundings entered a rapid construction process. It is aimed to reveal the change that occurred in this settlement on the urban fringe, the effects on the morphological structure of the countryside, and to draw attention to the change in the character of the countryside. In the Şıralık settlement, which is a rural settlement, the settlement pattern with four different morphological features will be determined and examined at the scale of construction, street, public space, parcel and building. In this way, in the example of Şıralık campus, it is possible to evaluate the impact of the construction created by the earthquake and pandemic on the rural texture and identity. The concept of urban morphology, which allows reading starting from the urban scale to the scale of a building and a room, formed the theoretical basis of the study. Within the scope of the research, new development areas in rural settlements and the morphological structure in existing settlements were examined in detail. Within the scope of this thesis, the change in rural identity, its socio-economic structure and its effects on rural character are discussed through the example of Şıralık.
