Cities' climate justice exam: Example of Adana

The fact that global climate change, which is one of the biggest worrying problems of today, affects different human profiles in cities in different ways, constitutes urban climate injustice. Local governments step in to solve the inequalities caused by climate injustice at the urban scale. Until now, extreme weather events caused by climate change, which were not visible to nobody, as their effects intensify have risen to the top of the problems of everyday life while attracting more people's attention. For this reason, especially Adana Metropolitan Municipality, it is essential for all local governments to prepare a climate change action plan and implement it as soon as possible. The purpose of this study, survey questions asked to 501 participants living in Adana and to determine the effects of global climate change in Adana with the in-depth literature research, to measure the level of awareness about climate change of urban residents, to determine whether Adana has share in urban climate justice and it is to provide convenience to the metropolitan municipality and contribute to the literature by developing climate change adaptation policy recommendations for the climate change action plan expected to be formed in Adana. As a result of our survey study, 89.62% of the participants think that human activities have a significant impact on global warming. While 70.2% of the people of the region brought drought to the first place in the ranking of global problems, 75.0% see global warming and climate change as the third biggest global problem. 63.3% of the city dwellers aware that the impacts of climate change high in Adana, 95.4% are aware that the agricultural sector is most affected. 66.66% of the participants know that the main reason of climate change is electricity production based on fossil fuels and 37.3% of them know air pollution that the biggest environmental problem of in Adana. 69.1% of the participants think that raising awareness is important in combating climate change. As a result of the survey we conducted, it is seen that the awareness level about climate change of the local people in Adana is higher than expected.
