Study on global climate change adaptation policy and action strategies of cities London case

As climate change becomes more and more self-evident, work on studying and proving it at the global dimension has started and taken its place in international negotiations and has imposed responsibilities on every country. In order to make the studies at the national level more efficient, the necessity of working in the city scale and the individual behavior changes led climate change fighting studies to get matured in time. Studies focusing on climate change, focusing on urban areas, have begun to emphasize the need for urban mitigation efforts as well as adaptation actions to ongoing climatic changes to ensure life quality and sustainable development. The continuity of urban systems and the provisioning quality of life depend on the spatial planning components, repair, conservation, development, emergency planning by taking precautions against the natural disasters related to climate and functioning of resources, constructed and natural enviorement, vital and sectoral operations. A strategic approach to all these activities should be demonstrated and supported by legal mechanisms. The aim of this study is to show what to do when preparing adaptation strategy. United Kingdom is one of the leading countries in the fight against climate change and make world's first long-term climate change legislation, signing the Kyoto Protocol and reaching its carbon targets. As a case, climate change impacts and adaptation strategies of the London which is leading city to platforms where information gathering and sharing takes place, were examined. 1.Chapter is an introduction to the topic, the theses and articles about the climate change are summarized, the aim of thesis defined and starting point subjects are hypothesized. 2.Chapter, the scientific definition of climate change has been made, the cities' interactions with climate change have been examined and the concepts of climate change mitigation and adaptation to climate change effects have been discussed. 3.Chapter, adaptation need for cities, adaptation strategy processes, planning and design approaches are discussed in terms of combating climate change. 4.Chapter is the chapter on how London's integration policy, approaches and strategies are reflected and exemplified, through the UK and London, showing how national compliance actions and legal regulations are reflected on the city scale. In the conclusion and evaluation part, the studies made for England and London were evaluated and it was pointed out how the phases should be taken for a sample strategy approach and how the risks should be evaluated by considering the adequacy of these strategies and actions.
