Urban security and citizen security perception: The case of Antalya

The subject of the study is about the perceptions and evaluations of citizens in the case of Antalya in terms of city, security, urban security and urban security. Security has been the most important factor in the emergence and growth of cities throughout history. With the increase in trade in the cities and the industrial revolution, the population of the cities also increased. In our country, there has been a great interest in cities where trade and industry are concentrated, and the rate of migration from rural to urban has increased. In addition to unplanned construction and inadequate infrastructure in the housing of the increasing population, it has created great problems in city management and security. The understanding of security covers not only public order security, but also community safety, food safety, traffic safety and health safety. The same management style approach of the central government to all cities did not adapt to the unique structure of each city. The lack of a distinctive management style among cities with their own unique culture, architecture and lifestyle is a major obstacle in solving problems. It is inevitable to give more authority to local governments or civil authorities within the general rules. It is not possible to manage cities and ensure their security with the classical management approach. It is imperative to develop new methods within the governance that take into account the demands and suggestions of the city residents. In the field research carried out in Antalya; how a person feels safer in the city he lives in, the problems he sees, his suggestions and expectations from the city administrators have been researched and the security criteria have been put forward by the city residents. These criteria can be further developed according to the characteristics of the cities and applied to other cities.
