Abstract (EN)
Recent studies have related to Patients with β- thalassemia who suffer from increased iron concentration as a result of the repeated blood giving causes major long-term problems in their bodies. As a result, antioxidant levels may be utilized to identify a patient's vulnerability to such problems. In this study, Blood samples were collected from 300 males (150 persons aged 10-20 years of thalassemia patients who were transferred and managed in Babylon hospitals. Blood was obtained just before the transfusion. Furthermore, blood samples were taken from 150 people who seemed with healthy. The age of the cases and controls was matched.Measurement of glutathione S-transferase activity, glutathione, glutathione peroxidase-4,antioxidant & total oxidant, lipid peroxidation and vit E Work was done in the hospital laboratories as well as the laboratories of the Chemistry Department at the University of Babylon using the ELISA device.(Material Method related sentence). As a result, we can indicate that the biochemical evaluations revealed a decrease in the level of the enzyme(GST,GPX4) in those with the aforementioned disease when measured for people without any disease, as well as a fall in the level of glutathione and antioxidants and vitamin E, while the percentage of oxidants increased with lipid peroxidation.(Results and Discussion related sentence).
