Abstract (EN)
This thesis is about the concept of the ?SELF? which is at the origin of Kierkegaard?s philosophy and its relation with ?Freedom?. The reason of concentrating on the concept of the ?SELF? is that whole philosophy of Kierkegaard proceeds and expands around the ?SELF?. Although Kierkegaard generally seems to be well-known within his thoughts of religion, it is important to note that the concept of ?SELF? lies at the center of his philosophy on religion.Firstly, it is worth mentioning that examining human being as a ?SELF? definitely did not begin with Kierkegaard. However, what differentiate Kierkegaard from the previous philosophers are his particular thoughts on the existence of the ?SELF?.To be more specific, Kierkegaard discusses the ?SELF? as synthesis. It is the synthesis of ?Soul? and ?Body? but at the same time the synthesis of ?necessity? and ?possibility? together with synthesis of ?infinite? and ?finite?. Actually, there is only one synthesis, namely the synthesis of ?Soul? and ?Body?. The other two syntheses are described as different appearances of the first synthesis. Due to this fact, one of the subjects focused on this study is the examination of these above mentioned syntheses.Another crucial point is that the changing balances between the mentioned elements that constitute the synthesis of ?SELF? make different personalities occur. These are named as Aesthetic, Ethic and Religious persons. For the Aesthetic, Don Giovanni, Faust and Seducer can be examples. Besides, Agamemnon can be given as an example for the Ethic. Lastly, H.Z. Ibrahim can be seen as an example of the Religious person. In this study, there is a special focus on these different human figures. Moreover, this thesis is especially focused on the subject of ?existence areas?. According to Kierkegaard, there are three types of Existence areas that different human figures belong to. These are Aesthetic, Ethic and Religious areas. Finally, in the thesis, the relation between ?self? and ?freedom? is analyzed. Specifically, in which existence areas human being as a self gain his freedom in full sense is emphasized.
