Abstract (EN)

Starting from beginning of the 2000s, mass media began to diversify and increase in number. The variety and practicality of these tools have been widely affecting daily lives and communication between people has become easier and faster. Due to these positive effects, the use of mass communication tools has been adopted by all segments of the society and as a result of internet access to individual users, mass media has become an essential part of daily life, social life and businesses. However, together with such conveniences, simple usage and practicality of the mass media lead to various abuses. With the addition of internet and social media to mass communication tools like traditional written media, radio and television, new types of violations against personality rights have also emerged. The legal regulations for these violations have started to be inadequate in both national and international legal systems, especially against ever-increasing variety of violations in recent years. That vacuum brings to applicants whose personal rights have been violated through mass communication activities ambiguity, confusion and problems of legal procedures. The purpose of this study is to examine the mass communication activities with past and current examples, to identify attacks on the personal rights that can be made through these activities and to provide information on the ways that may be followed within the framework of the current legal norms.
