Investigation of serum Isthmin-1 levels in patients diagnosis of colorectal cancer

Colorektal canser is the most malignant part of thegastrointestinal tract. In recent years, national screening programs have reduced the incidence of this common and fatal disase. The incidence of colorectal canser increases withage. Additionaly, familial risk factors, a diet high in animal fat and low in fibre, a history of inflammatory bowel disases and smoking increase the risk of colorectal canser. Adipokines are secreted from adipose tissue; they are peptide hormones that have effects on autocrine, paracrine and distant organs. Adipokines have important roles in the etiology of metabolic diseases. Adipokines have some physiological and pathophysiological effects.In addition to adipokines regulating glucose and lipid metabolism, studies have been conducted showing that some adipokines may be associated with tumor growth, proliferation, cell apoptosis, angiogenesis and tumor progression.Isthmin 1 participates in the organization of processes such as angiogenesis inhibition, tumor growth inhibition, migration, metastasis and apoptosis by binding to integrins associated with intracellular matrix elements.A complete understanding of the effects of the Istmin 1 molecule gives us hope for the treatment of many metabolic diseases. More studies are needed to determine the effectiveness and safety of future treatments related to Isthmin 1. In our study, a total of 88 participants were divided into groups based on the presence of colorectal cancer and metastasis. As a result of the study, a significant increase in serum Isthmin-1 levels was observed in relation to the presence of colorectal cancer and metastasis. Based on this finding, it was evaluated that the Isthmin-1 molecule could be used both for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, and it was concluded that further studies are needed in this regard.
