Investigation of protective measures against local scours around the bridge piers and abutments

In this thesis, methods of countermeasures to prevent local scour around bridge pier were investigated experimentally within the scope of the TUBİTAK 109M637 project. The experiments were carried out in a rectangular flume of 80 cm width, 18.6 m length and 75 cm depth which was available in the Hydraulic Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department at DokuzEylul University. The bed material of the flume was uniform and riprap and collar were used as countermeasure practices. The temporal variations of scour depth weremeasuredand the efficiency of various preventive means was determined.
