Abstract (EN)
Platelets are small blood cells that play a role in blood coagulation and are known to play a fundamental role in inflammation. Mean platelet volume (MPV) is a quantitative measure of the average size of platelets. It is an indicator of platelet function and activation. Cord blood is an important source of stem cells. It contains three different types of stem cells: hematopoietic stem cell (HSC), mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) and cord blood stem cell. Cellular therapies using human mesenchymal stem cells have been extensively investigated for the treatment of various diseases based on their multiple therapeutic effects. Reliable and easy tests are needed to predict hematopoietic potency and transplantation efficacy before storing products in cord blood banking. It has been reported that mean platelet volume is associated with total nucleated cell (TNC) and CD34+ cell counts. However, it is not known whether there is a relationship between mean platelet volume and cord blood mesenchymal stem cells. In this study, the relationship between mesenchymal stem cell ratio in cord blood and mean platelet volume was evaluated.
