The relation between thromboxane B2 and arterial stiffness in patients with coronary artery disease

Aim: In this study it is aimed to examine the relation between arterial stiffness and tromboxane (TX) B2 levels that is an indicator of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) effectiveness in patients who are using 100 mg ASA.Metod: 82 patients with coronary artery disease history who applied cardiology outpatient clinic and were using 100 mg ASA enrolled to this study. Serum TXB2 levels measured from patients blood samples. Arterial stiffness measured by sfingmocor and arterial tonometry concorrently. Arterial stiffness was evaluated with augmentation index (AIx) and pulse wawe velocity (PWV) parameters.Findings: Serum TXB2 levels were 428± 1312. İn the study group AIx and PWV were found as 11,7± 2,8 and 28± 9 respectively. There were no significant relation between TXB2 levels with AIx (r:0,09 p:0,4) and PWV (r:-0,01 p:0,05). Likewise no significant relation obtained between arterial stiffness and age, gender, hipertension, diabetes mellitus, obesity and drug use. The only significant relation was obtained between TXB2 levels and LDL (r:0,25 p:0,02) and total cholestrol (r:0,21 p:0,05) levels by bivariate pearson corrolation analysis.Conclusion: According to the results of this study arterial stiffness does not influence ASA resistance. Also the significant relation observed between TXB2 and LDL and total cholestrol levels idicates that high LDL and total cholestrol levels may cause ASA resistance. In order to determine the factors that cause ASA resistance larger studies with different doses of treatment groups are needed.
