Conflicts stemmed from organizational communication and conflict management approaches at rural and urban primary schools

In this study, it?s aimed to determine the kinds and levels of communication conflicts and the strategies in managing these conflicts in primary schools based on the views of school managers and teachers.2400 full employed teachers and managers of schools located in the provincial centre of Elazığ, and 344 full employed teachers and managers of schools (schools which give full day lessons) located in the rural area of Elazığ, were subject to the study in the academic year of 2007-2008. 350 of the full employed teachers and managers of schools located in the provincial centre, and 300 of the full employed teachers and managers of schools located in the rural area had gained access to the sampling group. Five educational districts were designated in 5 different clusters while sampling from the city, and the total amount of teachers and managers in each group were determined for sampling in accordance with the percentage of the group of 2400 persons.During the data analysis, distributions of each item in the poll were compared with the Chi-square analysis in the context of the independent variances. A comparison of the questionnaire dimensions according to independent variances was carried out through the Mann Whitney U-test.If some of the obtained results may be summarized, it may be said that school managers and teachers have found socio-cultural factors effected as the reasons of communication conflicts; male and female respondents have found personal factors important; and the listening and integration strategies in managing communication conflicts have not been practiced sufficiently.
