The relationship between troponin T levels and echocardiographic parameters in chronic hemodialysis patients

SUMMARYIn this study the correlation between the levels of cTnT, clinicalparameters and echocardiographic volume measures had been evaluated inchronic hemodialysis patients.The purpose of the study was to assess the predictive value of cTnTlevels to evaluate the hydration status of the patient as it?s more easilyobtained than standard echocardiographic measures commonly used inclinical practice actually.61 chronic dialysis patients undergoing hemodialysis since three months(mean 19 months) three times a week. Blood samples top measure thecTnT levels had been obtained one day prior the midweek hemodialysis.Echocardiographic measures had been assessed by the same operatorusing Vivid - 3 Image Point system with 1.7 MHz cardiac probe one daybefore the second hemodialysis sequence of the week.The comparison of echocardiographic volume parameters revealed thatpatients with positive cTnt values have wider left ventricular end diastolicdiameter, left atrium diameter, greater LV mass, LV mass index, but VCIinspiratory collapsibility index was lower cTnT positive group had more leftventricular parameter variability. The results were statistically significant.Our results suggest that the cTnt values could be used to predicthypervolemia in hemodialysis patients and be useful to pinpoint thetreatment of these patients.29
