Comparison of treatment cost of home care services and inpatient treatment institutions for chronically bedridden patients

In our country, life expectancy has been prolonged with the improvement of living condition, the decline in fertility and mortality rates, the development of technology and adjustment of environmental impacts, increasing of immunity level by vaccination and formation of a high resistance against infectious diseases. Hence, during the extending life expectancy of people, risk of getting chronic diseases has been increases and people are getting services from different health institutions for treatment. At this point of getting services, we made a cost analysis and compared with the tables to find the most effective and most cost-effective health services provided from different institutions. This research is a thesis study in order to explain that does home health service which was established by T.C. Ministry of Health, cheaper or expensive in the course of chronic diseases of people in need of help and treatment than the hospital. Our thesis covers elderly bedridden people, bedridden patients due to chronic diseases and disable individuals within Trabzon Ortahisar district's boundaries. In the research, we used data of patient records from Fatih State Hospital located in Trabzon Ortahisar district and statistical data of Home Health Coordination Central Unit of T.C. Health Ministry Trabzon Public Health Department. We based most common 5 diagnoses on TSİM (Basic Health Statistics Module). We investigated the cost of 100 patients which includes 50 hospitalized patients and 50 patients who monitoring by Unit of Home Health Services due to this diagnoses, calculated the cost of empty bed in Fatih State Hospital and expensed of Unit of Home Health Services and compared with tables. We analyzed costs of these services to provide therapeutic benefits from different institutions of T.C. Health Ministry and researched towards to find lower one.
