Assessment of the implementation results of support scheme for the purchase of agricultural machinery and equipment (SSPME) implemented within the framework of rural development investments program (RDISP): A case study of Mersin province

The purpose of this study is to identify the performance and the success of Support Scheme for the Purchase of Agricultural Machines and Equipment, SSPME within the framework of Rural Development Investments Support Program, RDISP. The inefficiencies and the difficulties in implementing SSPME are examined and recommendations are made according to the implementation results of the program. The sustainability of SSPME and its impact on the agricultural machinery manufacturing industry, particularly in the province of Mersin, are examined. The results of the survey shows that SSPME in general, are being successfully implemented and attained in its objectives between the years 2007 and 2010, according to the assessment of farmers' expressions of opinions on the questionnaires. It is concluded that SSPME program has had a positive impact on the agricultural machinery manufacturing industry, creating more than 100 % increase in employment. It is also concluded that the program has provided considerable increase in revenues, production areas and capacities of the manufacturers. The SSPME implemented within the framework of RDISP has given the manufacturers opportunity for technology development.
