Enrichment of some trace elements in drinking and potable water in Kirsehir/its determination by atomic absorption spectrometry

Abstract (EN)

Knowledge of the characteristics of drinking and potable water is important for scientific studies and public health. In this study, the quantitative determination of the certain trace elements (Pb, Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cr) in drinking and potable water samples in Kırşehir were carried out. The separation-enrichment operations for the likely trace elements in water samples was carried out by coprecipitation method. As the precipitating reagent Ce(IV) was used. The optimal conditions for the co-precipitation method has been determined by examining of the effects of various experimental parameters such as pH of solution, carrier amount, duration of the precipitation, sample volume, and type and concentration of the recovery solution by using model solutions. Then, water samples has been analyzed directly or after preconcentration under optimal conditions by using High Resolution Continous Source Flame Atomic Absorbtion Spectrometry (HR CS-FAAS). It was also investigated the efficiency, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), linear working range, accuracy and precision for the applied method. Trace elements in water samples could not be determined directly; the values of trace elements in the water samples was determined to be within the standard boundaries after the enrichment process.
