Abstract (EN)
Dokuz Eylül University, Koca Piri Reis Research Ship (R/V K.Piri Reis) has reached its 40th anniversary in 2018. Built in Germany for marine research, the ship has been active since 1978. Scientific research as well as important strategic tasks perform Koca Piri Reis ship for Turkey, Dokuz Eylul University is one of the four research vessels managed by the Institute of Marine Sciences and Technology. When the research vessels operating in the world seas are examined, it is seen that their economic life span is between twenty and thirty years. In this study, in terms of feasibility studies for a new research vessel of the institute, the Small Waterline Area Twin Vessel (SWATH) Type Research Vessel which is least affected by the waves compared to other vessel types has been examined with the use compatibility matrix. In this context, the types of research ships that can be used in the surrounding seas, especially for the marine researches, are examined in terms of benefit/loss, cost/efficiency.
