Abstract (EN)
The user participation approach is a design approach in which users are included in all processes, unlike traditional processes. The main purpose of this approach is to establish a more effective form of communication with the authorities regarding the needs and demands of the users, to ensure cooperation and to take an active role. How designers and planners construct the processes, what is used, their roles in the process and their interaction with the users are mentioned. Community gardens are ecological settlements created by volunteers. The aim of this study is to develop a model proposal for community garden design with an approach in which campus users can be actively involved. It is aimed to create a process where users have the freedom to change, build and shape their own environment. It is aimed to create a harmonious and productive interaction in cooperation in the user-participated community garden design process and to develop a model proposal in which users and all stakeholders are included in the process and the elements that can be data for the design are provided. Since community gardens are based on the principle of volunteerism, a user participation approach proceeds with a natural process. For this reason, it was thought that the user participation approach and the construction of community gardens together would strengthen the research. The study setup consists of 3 main parts. In the first part, the emergence and development of the user-participated design approach is included, in the second part, the characteristics and use of community gardens, and in the third part, the processes designed for the creation and development of the design model, seminars, surveys, workshops, for the involvement of the users in the process. As research methods, different methods such as literature review, field trip, interviews with authorities, information studies (seminars), survey work, workshop and user interviews are applied. Within the scope of this study, the methods of involving the users in the process and the development of the community garden design model with the users and the data obtained from them are emphasized. In order to create a iii community garden design proposal with the user participation approach, FMV Işık University Şile campus has been determined as the study area. Universities are likened to 'small cities' due to the user profile and campus activities they have, which have the potential to affect the environment and society for cities. The reason why the university campus is preferred as the study area is that the campuses have very different functions such as education, work, accommodation, recreation, communication, demographics and the potential to be a reference to both urban spaces and smaller-scale projects. At the end of the study, a community garden model was developed for FMV Işık University Şile campus with a user-participated design approach.
