Abstract (EN)
The approach of the media, which has its own purpose, is one of the most decisive facts in the shaping of today's society. Universal culture, which takes the place of social culture, is shaped as a shallow representation of media elements corrupting the masses. With the media, which throws the cornerstones of cultural alienation, individuals are identified with consumption objects and social culture is pacified. In the creation of a uniformed society, individuals begin to take shape in the way determined by the ruling thought, together with the propaganda discourses of the media. The idea, which is imposed by the print media, digital space and media tools that have many areas of access, quickly penetrates the masses. "According to Gökalp, culture is national and in this respect he calls culture "national culture" or "hars". According to him, although culture is national, civilization is international. Civilization is a common whole of the social lives of many nations" (Cited by: Şahin, 2011: 246). The concept of civilization turns into a universal culture with the capitalist system and a culture industry with modernity. The culture industry created by the capitalist system abolishes the natural process of cultural change and development with a sudden imposition and corrupts societies with mass media and marketing techniques. In this study, the effects of media on culture will be examined. Cultural elements that change with the development of industry will be discussed within the framework of artistic activities. Along with the consumption culture, the free choices of individuals and the arguments of the culture industry, which cause the destruction of the collective structure, will be defended by the analysis of artists and works. As a research method, it will be studied by making a literature review.
