Özet (EN)

This study which is about Latin dance courses in İzmir is focused on analyzing the reasons for the interest in Latin dances with the notion of Pierre Bourdieu?s cultural capital. Cultural capital is an accumulation of art, knowledge, skill, environment, etc. which is acquired from family after birth, improved with the education and social relationships. Music and dance are the analytical objectives for people to place themselves in the society and they also help to be understood how they placed themselves in the society. To speak or act in a way that others can share is a cultural capital. Dance is also a significant form of cultural capital. To participate in a dance class is an important soical activity because it is an activity of a skill performing. So it is important for social environment because trainees express their skills and contains particular values. People use these kind of ways to distinguish themselves from the ?others?. Dance is one of the tools for people to reconstruct themselves with the particular music culture. After interviews with trainees and observations it is concluded that attending to any dance course and learning to dance is an important cultural capital because it is an important social activity and skill performing.In the study 75 trainee were interviewed, dance schools and courses have been examined by participating, observations were made in activities of each dance courses. The relationship between the reasons for tendency of participants for Latin dances and different features (age, education, gender, etc.) are represented in context of cultural capital.?ngilizce Anahtar Kelimeler:1- Dance2- Courses Dance3- Cultural Capital4- Socialization5- Latin Dance
