Socioeconomic effects of natural disasters in Kumluca district on local people

Unusual, natural and humanitarian events that cause significant loss of life and property that cause great damage to the living and lifeless environment are called disasters. Despite advancing technology in the world and Turkey losses in disasters it is quite high. place in Antalya, Turkey greenhouse plant productivity is quite large. Greenhouse operations according to climate and soil as well as the specifics of Antalya in Turkey is also one of the important agricultural areas in recent years Kumluca frequently occurring natural disasters cause great loss of socio-economic sense. While the relevant institutions and organizations take precautions, raising awareness of the local people before the disaster is effective way to minimize the harm of disasters. The purpose of this research; It is the determination of the socio-economic effects of natural disasters occurring in Kumluca district and the awareness of the people about disasters. The research was carried out by using face-to-face interview technique, which is one of the qualitative research methods in Kumluca urban district, Mavikent, Beykonak, Salur, Hacıveliler, Toptaş, Adrasan and Beşikçi rural neighborhoods. The farmers were interviewed directly with the idea that producers who own greenhouses and citrus gardens are affected by natural disasters in the field. In the period between July 2018 and September 2019, producers living in the neighborhoods decided as a sample were reached. According to the findings, it has been determined that the local people, who make their living from greenhouse cultivation and citrus, often suffer great financial and moral damages from disasters, they do not take precautions before, and there is a lack of awareness and education levels related to natural disasters. As a result, it is important to involve the local people in these studies as well as the effective and productive works of public institutions and organizations and non-governmental organizations in preventing or minimizing the loss of life and property in works related to natural disasters.
