Vocations referred in the Quran

As a social being, man has to work in order to survive and achieve his goals. Each individual chooses and works according to the needs and personal abilities of the society in which he/she lives. This situation is an indispensable way of proving personality, as well as a necessity for social life and order. Vocation; means a business whose rules are determined, based on the systematic knowledge and skills acquired through a certain education, to produce useful goods for people, to provide services and to earn money in return. Although it has changed shape with the change of time and needs, vocations have existed since the first man and have been passed down from generation to generation. The Qur'an, the last address to the servants of Allah, established the most perfect religion for humanity and pioneered a civilization to be established by Muslims took care of the realities of life in this respect and instructed human beings to work for the reconstruction of the earth. We observe that many vocations that are part of life are pointed out in the stories that contain news from the prophets and past nations, in the verses that declare and prove the oneness and grandeur of Allah and we think that the wisdom of this is to attract the attention of humanity. In this study, the terms vocation and its related meanings are defined and the importance of working and having a vocation in terms of both sociological and heavenly religions is emphasized. In the historical process of vocations, professional prophets and the professions of prophet Muhammad, the period of ignorance (Jahiliyya) and the professional life in the age of bliss were examined, the professions of the notables of the Companions (sahabah) were mentioned and the changes in the professions were pointed out. Finally, the vocations referred to in the Quran are mentioned and among them; agriculture, animal husbandry / shepherding, hunting, diving and seamanship were discussed in detail and the verses and interpretations (tafsir) of these vocations were examined. As a result, it is seen that the Quran while presenting the truths it wants to tell to people, it uses the facts of the life that he/she is familiar with, thus keeping its interest alive. It is understood that it is necessary to read and examine it without ignoring this aspect.
