Abstract (EN)
The relationship between the Qur'an and the discipline of logic represents an area that has received limited systematic attention in contemporary scholarship, despite the conceptual affinity between them. Logic, whose principal function is to protect human reasoning from error and to guide individuals toward sound and valid results, deserves to be examined carefully within the interpretive framework of the Qur'an. The absence of comprehensive studies explaining how this relationship can be illustrated through both scriptural examples and everyday human experience has created a sizeable gap in the literature, which it is hoped this thesis will help to fill. The thesis examines the epistemic foundations, functions, and relevance of these arts in relation to Qur'anic comment. It tries to show how Qur'anic verses may be read through logical principles and how logic, as an instrumental science, can contribute to understanding the Qur'an and applying its teachings in everyday life. Things that are usually considered abstract or difficult are being clarified with examples from both Qur'anic discourse and ordinary reasoning. In the classical Islamic intellectual tradition, God gave humanity two "books": The revealed book, the Qur'an, and the created book, the universe. By the Qur'an God gives guidance that allows human beings to interpret and understand both revelation and created order. The five arts function within this paradigm as intellectual tools that help individuals interpret the world and make sense of the Qur'anic message while also steering them clear of fallacious ways of reasoning.
