The concept of Nasr in the quran and hadith

The meaning and the naming of "Nasr" in the Quran shows dissimilarities with the current meaning of the word. The concept of "Nasr" is not just limited to the word "Nasr" but is taken on by many different phrases and words. "Nasr" in the Quran is not just reduced to the meaning of defeating the enemy, conquering them or diminishing the human and physical capital of the enemy, on the contrary it bears many different meanings. These meanings are "honour", "sovereignty in the world", which is the closest meaning of today's word, "persistence or strength of purpose", "salvation", "auspices", "support", "demonstrating confirmation" and "persistence in the dawah of ahl-al haq". The actualisation of Nasr is not with ease or coincidence but with Allah's bestowal adhered to certain conditions such as, Iman, istiqamah, fulfilling the fards, ikhlas, tawakkul, and persistence in the remembrance of Allah. Again "Nasr" and sovereignty in the world requires compliance to certain spiritual and material conditions. The spiritual conditions are rabbanî governance, raising individuals according the rule of Allah, committing to the dyne of Allah without sectarianizing, exalting the dyne of Allah, spreading and complying to the aqidah of tawhid. The material conditions are the equipment, advanced weaponry, technological and scientific centres that can be justified with the ayah "and prepare against them whatever you are able of power and of steeds of war by which you may terrify the enemy of Allah…" (Al-Anfal,60). Just like there are conditions and reasons for "Nasr" there are also reasons that prevent it. These impediments must be known to be avoided. The first and most important of these is rebellion against Allah which is the cause of perishment and rout of past people. We can also count shirk, cruelty, creating contention and dispute among Muslims and befriending the kuffâr among these reasons. Someone who wants "Nasr" in compliance with the meaning in the Quran must fulfil the conditions and reasons of Nasr and avoid the obstacles and persist in tawakkul to Allah.
