The exchange of place between fâ'il and mef'uls in the syntax of the Qur'an and developments in their Turkish translation (Aynü'l-Hayât translation as a model)

This thesis investigates the syntactic and rhetorical implications of the preposing (Taqdîm) of the object and the postposing (Takhîr) of the subject in the Quran, conducting a comparative linguistic analysis of the Arabic text and its Turkish translation 'Aynu'l Hayât. The study's primary concern is to explore how the shifts in the placement of the object in the sentence affect the subtle nuances in meaning and how these shifts are reflected in translation. To address this problem, the study employs a two-fold approach. First, the Quranic text is systematically examined to identify verses where object preposing occurs. These verses are then collated in a table, with their corresponding Turkish translations from 'Aynu'l Hayât and Diyanet İşleri. Second, a comparative linguistic analysis is conducted based on these verses and their translations to evaluate how the nuances created by the preposing of the object in the Arabic text are communicated in the translations. The findings confirm the intricate interplay of Nahw (syntax) and Balâghah (rhetoric) in understanding the Quranic Arabic's linguistic fabric. They also highlight how the syntax disparities between Arabic and Turkish can sometimes veil the effect intended from pre-posing or post-posing a sentence element in Arabic when translated into Turkish. Additionally, the research reveals that studies on this topic within Arabic literature are vast, scattered and not systematically arranged. This lack of structure presents a significant challenge for researchers, particularly translators, who strive to gain a comprehensive understanding of the scholars' insights into the subject of preposing and postposing.
