The effect of the global information age on the demonstrations of tahrir in Egypt

Data-information-knowledge are the most important concepts in the history of humankind. Because of these concepts the humankind have transformed from the primitive society to the global information society. When we look at humankind history, the primitive society chronologically transformed to the agriculture society, the industry society and the global information society. At the beginning these transformations were limited by a small area and took in a long time. Because the communication that providing interaction between societies was limited and difficult. But, with the development of communication possibilities, social transformations took place in a short time. The global information age and society that tightly connected with the democracy and human rights have been able to influence a large part of the world in a short time because of the computer and internet technology. Communication is an extremely important process for the interaction of societies. If the communication possibilities had not developed in the historical process, globalization, the most used concept of our day, would not be so effective. Today, the internet facilitates communication. But it does not just facilitate communication. It also facilitates social organization. For this reason, mass demonstrations that we did not see in previous periods of history were realized. The rest of the world followed these developments through both traditional media and social media. Young Egyptians had the opportunity to share ideas- on the social media platforms provided by internet technology- about democracy, human rights and the future of the country. Thus, young Egyptians understood that they are not alone. By organizing mass demonstrations and using social media, they announced their demands for democracy and human rights to the whole world in the first month of 2011. On February 11th with the resignation of Mubarak the mass demonstrations reached its goal. For the first time in Egypt's history, the president was elected by democratic election.
