Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY Globalization, which became a keyword in the 1990s and 2000s, showed its impact mostly on cities. There has been a transition from industrial cities, which are the centers of production, to global cities, which have become the centers of consumption and international capital. The social, economic and political changes have not only caused changes in cities, but also affected the citizens living in the city in different ways. The change was generally carried out by the state in line with the wishes of the capital and affected the citizens mostly negatively. Services for city dwellers have lost their priority, and investments to attract international capital to cities have gained importance. Children from disadvantaged groups were most affected by these negative changes in the city. For this reason, especially with the development of children's rights and the use of the phrase "child-friendly cities" at the Habitat II meeting, it has become a necessity to create cities that give priority to the needs of the child that will affect their life and development, such as education, health, shelter, play and cultural activities, and where children can participate in decisions. This thesis examines the concept of child-friendly city in the context of the change of cities after globalization. The aim of the study is to examine the effects of globalization on cities, to analyze child-friendly cities as a solution proposal for children from disadvantaged groups in changing cities, to give examples of the applications, and to meet the wishes of children aged 10-14 living in Antalya and parents of children in this age group. and to reveal their needs and to examine the work done and planned to be done by local governments in Antalya within the scope of a child-friendly city. Antalya entered a rapid urbanization process, especially with the implementation of tourism incentive laws in the post-1980 period. With the developments in the tourism sector, job opportunities have increased, thus migration movements to the city have accelerated. Today, due to both population growth and the effects of tourism on the city, Antalya, as the 5th largest city in Turkey, has become one of the cities where the effects of globalization are felt the most. The wishes and needs of children and parents living in Antalya and the work carried out by local governments regarding the child-friendly city are gaining importance in this sense. Quantitative and qualitative research methods were used together in the study. First of all, a theoretical framework was created by conducting a literature review. Then, data was obtained by applying survey and in-depth interview methods. The survey results were statistically analyzed and tabulated using the SPSS 23 program. Reliability and validity tests of the surveys were carried out with the help of an expert statistician. For this, Annova and Post Hoc. tests were used. The interview results were evaluated using the descriptive analysis method. The study consists of three parts. In the first part, globalization, urbanization and child-friendly cities, globalization and urbanization in Turkey, child-friendly cities in Turkey, geographical, demographic and administrative structuring of Antalya; In the second part, the research model, population, sample and framework, quantitative and qualitative data collection tools, data analysis and validity and reliability findings of the research; In the third section, the findings and evaluations of the field research conducted in Antalya will be presented.
