Abstract (EN)

English and Kurdish are the members of the same language family, but in the different branches, and this leads to the similarities and differences. It is possible to see these similarities and differences in the verbs as well, and the verbs take a crucial place in language learning. Among these similarities and differences is the existence of phrasal verbs and prepositional verbs. The aim of this study is to compare the phrasal and prepositional verbs in Kurdish and English languages. The study begins with information related to Indo-European language family. Seeing as the phrasal and prepositional verbs are created through the verbs and prepositions, information on these two types of words are given in the first chapter of the study. Apart from the information about the verbs and prepositions the same chapter includes knowledge pertaining to the phrasal verbs. The questions such as what the phrasal verbs are, how they are created, whether there are differences between the phrasal verbs of the two languages, and if there are what these differences are have been answered in this chapter. In the second chapter the subject is prepositional verbs, and the same discussions are made on this type of verbs. The last parts of both chapters include examples of phrasal and prepositional verbs from the legend named Memê Alan.
