The effect of urban design projects implemented in coastal areas on spatial change and user groups: Antalya provincial case

Being urban public spaces, coastal areas by definition are available to be benefited from by each individual forming society, thus should be planned and designed in accordance with their importance. For these spaces to maintain their "publicness" function, they must be open to the access and use of all citizens forming a community, and at the same time they must be encouraging. To ensure this public characteristic, especially the coastal areas within the urban fabric should be designed in a way that allows all citizens to benefit from them equally. The issue of public space, which becomes increasingly important with political, economic, and social changes and changing living conditions, is of great significance especially for developing countries in terms of reflecting the urban and social structure. Urban public spaces that are intended to be used by all citizens and designed for this purpose are not always sufficient to achieve the desired results. This thesis study aims to be useful in determining the points that need to be intervened, developed, and changed in the planning, design, and implementation processes to minimize the effect of the design project applied in the urban public space on the socio-spatial differentiation of user groups.
