The engraved and reliefed plates belonging to the early Byzantium era brought to light in the laodikeia excavations and an application

The ceramic art is one of the oldest handicrafts dating back from the ancient times up to the present day. Thanks to the Ceramic findings analyzed within the scope of the archeological and sociological researches, human life can be comprehended much more easily. Laodikeia, the Ancient City which is the source of this study is one of the most important settlements in the Denizli (Lykos) Plain which has witnessed many settlements since the ancient times up to the present day, and it sheds light on many researches especially with respect to the ceramic examinations.In this thesis study, the history of the ceramics belonging to the Laodikeia Ancient City has been discussed in a general sense and scrutinized chronologically, and in addition to this, especially the Sgrafitto-Embossed Plates Belonging to the Early Byzantium Era have been tried to be examined in detail. The works of art have been researched by taking the historical and geographical factors such as the origin and dispersion into consideration as well as the physical headlines such as the raw material, the setting and the technique, and in the light of this research, its production under the conditions of the present day has been tried.During the research, it was seen that the samples with similar shapes and settings apart from the findings of Laodikeia were also present in Saraçhane, Sardeis, Yumuktepe, Pergamon and Allianoi. In spite of the fact that for what purpose exactly these plates were produced is not obvious, it is believed that they are local productions belonging to Laodikeia. Moreover, it is thought that the scenes depictured in the works of art are rather unique to the eastern communities.The first part of the application was brought to a position ready for mass production by means of the preparation of the model in the plaster mold and taking the mold of the model in compliance with the pattern mold, and the conclusion of giving shape to the plates by plastering mud to the mold was prepared.
