Abstract (EN)

Various investigations had been made in different tumor types with D2-40 that it is immunohistochemical marker for lymphatic endothelial cells. Laryngeal carcinomas are the most common tumors that are seen in head and neck. Metastasis to lymph nodes in laryngeal carcinoma have a prognostic significance like the other several organs. Lymphangiogenesis is an early indicator of metastasis to lymph nodes and in this study we aim to compare the lymphatics which can be shown by D2-40 and tumor cells that are stained by D2-40 with some clinicopathologic parameters. In our study, 114 cases which have had the diagnosis of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma have been used. Six of the patients were female and 108 of the patients were male and the age range is among 35-87 years. Cervical lymph node metastasis are present in the 43 of the cases and are not present in the 71 of the cases. In the immunohistochemical staining which is made by D2-40, lymphatics numbers that are seen in peritumoral area change among 0-41 and the mean is determined as 12. Lymphatic numbers that are present in intratumoral area are among 0-30 and the mean is determined as 5. When the lymphatic numbers in peritumoral area is compared with the groups which have lymph node metastasis or the groups which haven?t lymph node metastasis, lower lymphatic numbers are seen highly in the group which haven?t lymph node metastasis. When the lymphatics numbers peritumoral area is compared with stage; especially in stage-4, the increase in the lymphatic numbers attracts attention. In the comparison of the staining in tumor cells with the grade, higher staining rates are seen in the well differentiated in proportion to moderate/poorly differentiated tumor. The result is meaningful as statistically (p=0.011).The correlation among lymphatics numbers, lymph node metastasis, grade and tumor site couldn?t be seen.Although, in our study D2-40 couldn?t be seen as prognostic parameter in laryngeal carcinoma; that should be kept in mind; with wider investigations, especially cases without lymph node metastasis can be followed according to the D2-40 rate.Key words: Laryngeal carcinoma, D2-40, Lymphangiogenesis
