Evaluation of street art in the context of Lefebvre's "Right to the City" theory

In this study, street art, which is seen as an alternative form of art, is evaluated in the context of Lefebvre's "right to the city" theory. It is discussed that street art is a form of space production through the right to the city theory. The main hypothesis of this thesis study is the contribution of street artists, who choose urban spaces as an alternative production area, from the field of art to the "right to the city" theory, which is discussed in many fields of social sciences and exhibits an integrated structure within itself. Within the scope of the thesis, based on the concept of city, the general boundaries of Lefebvre's "right to the city" theory and its contexts in the political and historical process are revealed. By mentioning the practices of the situationist movement and the concept of flaneur, a general framework was drawn with the historical process and practices of street art. The works produced during the thesis have been left to be exhibited in public spaces. Some of the works created were modeled and miniaturized with references taken from public spaces, along with graffiti and street art works on them.
