Abstract (EN)
In medical practice, the treatment of fractures and deformities associated with extremities utilizes mechanical devices called external fixators. The quality of treatment involving external fixators can be enhanced with a biomechanical approach whereby a mathematical model of the fixation system is developed for its effective and efficient usage. The main point is to fixate the fracture first without any detailed preoperative planning considering the conditions of the bones and the surrounding soft tissue, and then apply a correction to the resulting permanent displacements based on the mathematical theory. Stewart platform mechanism is selected as an appropriate frame. For this procedure to run smoothly, the input and the output of the mathematical model should be performed with sufficient accuracy and following a certain standard. For this purpose, software is developed that shows how the robotic frame should be configured in order to bring the bone fragments into the correct anatomical position by using antero-posterior (AP) and Lateral (L) X_Ray images and outputs of clinical examination. The standard input to the mathematical model is obtained by processing the collected numerical data with this software. For easy perception of the output data by the orthopedic surgeon, a user-friendly interface is developed that hides the details of the mathematical theory. Usefulness of the software and biomechanical system are demonstrated with two different practical applications.
