Abstract (EN)

After the global financial crisis a set of reform to strengthen global liquidity regulations with the goal of promoting a more resilient banking sector have been implemented. This study investigates the determinants of banks' liquidity buffers in Turkey after these regulations by using bank-specific, country-specific and macroeconomic indicators. Within the scope of liquidity risk management, the study tries to identify the factors affecting banks' high quality liquid asset holding tendency by using data over the period 2006Q1 to 2019Q2 and a balanced panel dataset is formed for 20 deposit banks covering 90% of the Turkish Banking System. 5 different fixed effect panel models were created and according to the results, it was observed that there was a significant relationship between Turkish banks' liquidity buffers and bank size, capital adequacy ratio, stable funds, non-performing loans and real GDP growth.
