Evaluating the effects of attitudes of parents on depression levels and social problem solving skills in high school students

The main purpose of this researchis to determine the degree of influence of parental attitudes of individuals to depression and problem solving skills.Research was done with accordance of general screening model. This study was made with 100 participants including 50 9th and 10th grade high school students. Data's were collected from applied procedures such as Beck Depression Scale, Parental Attitude Inventory and Problem Solving Inventory. The parental attitudes, problem solving skills and depression levels were calculated with total points taken from survey and scales. After results of analysis by looking at average value of Parental Attitudes Inventory scores the attitudes that individuals perceive from their parents are found to be democratic.If we look at the scores of depression scales of individuals we can see that depression levels are low. And if we look at problem solving inventory scores we can see that problem solving skills are at intermediate level. Democratic Attitudes of individuals perceived from their parents are to be seen high after comparing the scores between Parental Attitudes inventory and Mann Whitney U Test according to boys and girls ratio. Comparing the Depression Levels scores between Mann Whitney U Test with ratio girls to boys show us that Depression Levels are higher. And ratio boys to girls is also high in Problem Solving Skills. It can be resulted by comparing the Problem Solving Skills scores with Mann Whitney U Test. By comparing the Parental Attitudes Inventory scores with Kruskal Wallis Test could not be determined any meaningful difference between individuals. And this comparing for the Depression Levels will give us the results that individuals at age 18 have high depression levels rather than other individuals. Also Problem Solving Skills scores were compared with Kruskal Wallis test and also no meaningful difference were found between ages of individuals. Mann Whitney U Test was applied between the grades of individuals and scores taken from Parental Attititudes Inventory and no meaningful difference were found. Depression Levels scores compared with the grades of individuals by Mann Whitney U Test and depression levels of individuals at last grade are higher than individuals at first grade. But there is no meaningful difference in Problem Solving Skills between grades where individuals are. Democratic Attitudes of first baby individuals are to be found higher than other individuals while comparing the scores between births by Kruskal Wallis Test. No meaningful difference were found for Depression Levels between births of individuals. Also no difference was showed us by Kruskal Wallis Test for Problem Solving Skills between births. No difference were found while comparing the parents education levels by Kruskal Wallis Test for Parental Attitudes. For Depression Levels there is no difference between their parent's educations when testing with Kruskal Wallis Test. Also the same situation we can say for Problem Solving Skills. When looking at the results after comparing the father's educations of individuals with scores from Parental Attitudes by Kruskal Wallis Test can be seen that individual's Democratic Attitudes perceived from their parents graduated from master degree or higher is higher than others. But there is no difference for Depression Levels by Kruskall Wallis Test. Also no difference were found between fathers education and Parental Attitudes Scale. Parental Attitudes Scales were compared with Depression Level scores and as a result when democratic attitude is getting high then depression level is getting low. When authorities perceived from parents getting high the depression gets high. Increase in Indifferent attitude can increase depression. Parental Attitudes Inventory scores and Problem Solving Inventory scores were compared and according to this comparison when depression increase problem solving skills are decrease.
