An investigation of cognitive flexibility in terms of socio-demographic variables and anger level and anger styles in adolescent

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between cognitive flexibility scores of high school students and their anger level and anger styles. It was also examined that whether there is a difference among students? cognitive flexibility scores in terms of students? gender, grade level, socio-economic level and their parents? education level.The participants of this study were 1000 students graded between 9-12 from senior high schools in Adana. To collect the data, Cognitive Flexibility Scale (CFS), Trait Anger and Anger Styles Scale (TAASS) and Personal Information Form were administered. Data were analyzed by using the statistical tecnique of Pearson?s Product Moment Correlation coefficients, t test and varyans analysis. Significant negative correlations were found between cognitive flexibility scores and the scores of TAASSs? subscales (trait anger, anger-in, anger-out, anger control), while there were significant positive correlations between cognitive flexibility scores and the scores of TAASSs? subscales (anger control). For students of grade 9 the cognitive flexibility score was higher and more significant than those of grade 11. No difference found among students? cognitive flexibility scores in terms of students? gender, their parents? education and social economic level.Keywords : Cognitive Flexibility, Anger, Adolescence
