Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to assess the comprehension of reading geometric structure texts of high school students. The study is a case study of qualitative research methods. The participants of the study at a public high school in the west of Turkey has established five girls of 11th grade students in the field of education. In the study which collected the data through one-on-one interviews d document analysis, the students were given an interview form consisting of nine questions for each geometric constuction. The geometric constructions were formed from geometric structure texts related to the formation of bisector, a specific length, circumferential circle, square and isosceles perpendicular triangle. The questions in the interview form included three categories: retrieving or recognizing, interpreting or connecting and reflecting or reasoning. Descriptive and content analysis an were used to analyze the data. In the research, it was determined that while students were not forced to find questions about the retrieving or recognizing category in general, but the students had problem in the questions requiring more cognitive skills higher level cognitive of the reflecting or reasoning category. However, it has been found that they had difficulty specially in recognizing geometric symbols of the reflecting or reasoning category. In the light of the findings, it can be said that students' reading comprehension of geometric texts was poor reading. In this sense, it may be recommended that teachers should do applications to increase students' understanding of reading.
