A study on the high school students' subjective well-being levels in terms of some variables

The purpose of this study is to determine whether personal traits of high school students such as gender, grade, number of close friend, number of brother, mother education level, father education level, family income state, perceived academic achievement and perceived parents' attitude have a significant effect over their subjective well-being or not and to investigate the relationship between high school students' subjective well-being and locus of control. The population of this relational survey research consists of 5400 students who study at 11 Anatolian High Schools connected the provincial directorate for national education in Konak central district in İzmir province in 2013-2014 academic year. In this study, stratified sampling method was utilized for sampling, and the research was carried out with 426 participants. The data collected with "Personal Information Form", "Subjective Well-Being Scale" and "Locus Of Control Scale" was analyzed with SPSS 20 software. For data analysis, frequency, percentage, median, Standard deviation, independent samples t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA and Pearson Correlation Coefficient were used. According to the results obtained from the research it was found that while there is statistically a meaningful significance between sudents' subjective well-being and perceived academic achievement there isn't a meaningful significance in terms of the traits such as gender, grade, number of close friend, number of brother, mother education level, father education level, family income state and perceived parents' attitude. Finally, the relationship between high school students' subjective well-being level and locus of control level was investigated. According to the results it was found a positive and meaningful relation between high school students' subjective well-being and locus of control. Moreover it was found a positive and meaningful relation between high school students' subjective well-being and the sub factors except political control of locus of control scale, too.
