An ancient city on the border of Lycia and Caria: Hippokome (Dalaman/Çöğmen)

The ancient city of Hippokome, located in the mountainous geography bordering the Northwest Lycia and Caria regions, has been discussed in many aspects throughout the thesis. Due to its geographical conditions, the city differs from other settlements in the vicinity as it is a mountainous settlement with plenty of rivers. For this reason, Hippokome has geographically and politically shared with other small settlements in the inner parts of Fethiye gulf. The settlement names and the donor list in the bath inscription in the city support this proposition. Although periodic changes are observed about the importance and status of the city, it is claimed that Oktapolis is a region and Hippokome is a member of this region. Hippokome, which is also mentioned in the Patara Road Monument, also connects small settlements with the road network it is in. In the thesis study, the settlements that it is connected to on the road route to Hippokome are discussed. The rock tombs seen in the city were handled primarily based on the works of Paaova Roos and were compared with the rock tombs in the surrounding settlements. In this thesis study, it is tried to introduce the Hippokome Ancient City to the scientific world as a result of literary sources, epigraphic documents and modern researches.
