Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to reveal the role of previous inspections conducted by the education inspectors on the performance of teachers. The study was carried out in the form of a case study, as one of the qualitative research methods. The semi-structured interview form enhanced by the researcher was used as a data collection tool in the study. The interview form developed as the data collection tool in the study was put into final form in accordance with expert opinion. The criterion and snowball sampling of the purposive sampling methods were used in the process of determining the participants. In this context, the interviews with the 15 idealistic teachers proposed by the headteachers of schools and considered as being pointed at on their own fields have been done. Code names (such as K1, K2...) were used to hide the names of the participants. The recordings during the interview were encoded and transcripted by the researcher. Then the texts were delivered to the participants and the participants confirmed that these responses belong to them and they approved them. The texts were finalised depending on the responses received from the participants. As a result of study, it comes into prominence some facts that inspections are useful, teachers keep their documents more organised and they are more prepared for their classes; which are the positive aspects of the inspection. It is considered that the negative side of the inspections are that they don't increase the morale and motivation, they are nothing but document check, it isn't enough just to go to school for 1 or 2 hours and sometimes they have affected students negatively or haven't had any effect on students, teachers also can be affected negatively and there is no effect of inspections to improve teachers' performance. It is emphasized by the participants that the fact that inspections haven't been conducted by the education inspectors anymore doesn't have any effect on school's policy, headteachers can handle it in spite of some concerns, headteachers aren't expert in this field and perform it cursorily according to some participants, teachers don't generally get stressed and work more comfortable, what is the important is the attitude of the inspectors and the inspectors generally have prejudiced and critical attitude. It is emphasized by the participants that the best inspection is the one's conscience, it doesn't need any inspection for the people making for their heart- searching, each inspector performs differently because of the lack of definite standards about inspections conducted by now, and that caused a negative perspective of teachers towards to the inspectors, and the inspectors should be unprejudiced, the best inspection is actually conducted by parents, a new system which teachers can inspect each other is obligatory. The participant teachers have expressed that inspection has to be conducted, expressing that any good result can not be acquired without inspection and the best inspection is conducted by parents and what really matters is the self-control and one's own conscience.
