The current application of the technique of paste lustre

SUMMARY My Following theses deal with a decoration technique in ceramics which realizes paste luster effects on common Turkish clay found every where in Turkey. I chose a normal gas oven as we use it here. In the medieval one had only the choice between wood and charcoal. The difficulty using the gasoven lies in finding the degree of heat and the time neccessary for processing a good result. First I tried the traditional glazes and pastes later I experimented with my own mixtures. Hereby I found out that these also work very well with the local clay. One should possibly note that I tried my own glazes and paste mix tures only in the gas oven. The biggest problem was to find the right paste for the korresponding under glazes. My test showed that glazes which contained metal oxydes and which were over reduced mixed with the under glaze and turned out a metalic looking mixture which made the decoration almost unrecognizable. n
