Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of the thesis is to trace Eurocentrism and present the arguments of Subaltern Studies, one of the strongest criticisms of it, in the context of postcolonial thought. In this context, the criticism of the problems in Hegel's philosophy of history started with the studies of the history from below approach. The problem of Eurocentrism has settled in the academic literature after the Enlightenment and colonialism activities. The principles of historicity determined in Hegel's philosophy of world history, which is one of the most important ideas of Eurocentric historiography, deeply influenced the later thoughts on history. Changing socio-cultural conditions have led thinkers to question the inadequacies of this type of historiography and critical thoughts have developed. Historiography from below is a transition for the last part of the thesis, both in terms of its opposition to classical historiography in Europe and because it pioneered Subaltern Studies. Afterwards, the criticisms of postcolonial thought towards the Eurocentric understanding of universality are included. In the last part, the effort of Subaltern Studies, which is examined within the scope of postcolonial thought, to save the history of India from elitist writings and the criticism of Eurocentric epistemology that has settled in historiography are explained.
