The structure and theme in Mahmoud Shuqair's short short story compilation titled "Rituals of the Unfortunate Woman"

Mahmoud Shuqair is a Palestinian author known for his short-short story writing in the mid-20th century. Especially productive in short-short stories, Shuqair focuses on various social issues with his writings in this genre. Although short-short stories have similarities with other literary genres, they are a distinctive literary genre in terms of brevity, intensity and storytelling. The study is structured around three main sections. The introductory section explains the problem, purpose, importance, scope and method of the study. The first section deals with the storytelling of Mahmoud Shuqair. In the study, the relationship, similarities and differences between the short-short story genre with other literary genres are analyzed. It aims to determine the place of the short-short story in modern Palestinian literature. In the final chapter, the works of Mahmoud Shuqair in the first short-short story collection named "Rituals of the Unfortunate Woman" are examined structurally and thematically. The study evaluates the extent to which Shuqair embodies the short-short story genre in this collection. It explores the development of the short-short story in modern Palestinian literature and its relationship with other written literary genres. In addition, Mahmoud Shuqair's contributions to the short-short story genre, how he reflects the interaction of traditional Palestinian culture and modern literature in his works, topics such as deeper meanings in his short-short stories, proficiency in the use of language and thematic depth in his writings are stated. Although it is short, "Rituals of the Unfortunate Woman" is a compilation with deep meanings. Using the connotation values of language, the reader is presented with an impressive mental experience. The short-short stories in the compilation draw a successful diagram in terms of narrative, thematic structure, emotional depth, symbolism, the use of metaphors and narrative diversity. Additionally, the compilation contains all the features determined for the short-short story.
