Cultural geography of Yeşilyurt district (According to material culture elements)

The aim of this study, which has been prepared as a master thesis, is to reveal the cultural accumulation of people living in the region from past to present by examining according to the food, residence and clothing (material culture) characteristics of Malatya province, Yeşilyurt district. Yeşilyurt district, which is the subject of the study, was published in the Official Gazette dated 12.11.2012 and published in the Official Gazette numbered 28489 on 06.12.2012 and entered into force with the Law No. 6360 on the Amendment of Decree Laws and the Establishment of Thirteen Cities. Malatya gaining Metropolitan status; Yeşilyurt, which is defined as one of the two Central Districts, was formed by the merger of the old Yeşilyurt district and Gündüzbey, Yakca, Şahnahan, Dilek, Topsöğüt, Bostanbaşı towns, 36 neighborhoods participating from the province and 39 villages that have gained neighborhood status. It can be said that especially in the food culture of the region, economic activities are extremely evident. In addition, it can be said that there is a great parallelism with the products grown in the geography in food culture. Depending on the terrestrial climate, the widespread use of wheat and animal husbandry in the region also had a direct impact on food culture. In residential dwelling, Yeşilyurt district has a dwelling type that has its own characteristics and exhibits a different character in terms of traditional Turkish house plan types. In these buildings, which bear deep traces of Islamic religion and Turkish culture, the houses that are designed in accordance with the geographical features of the region according to the climatic conditions, the architecture that is very convenient with the physical construction of the region is quite remarkable. It can be said that the most determining role in the clothing culture of Yeşilyurt district is the rules of Islam. In addition, in the harsh continental climate in the region, clothing has been extremely effective on culture. Yeşilyurt district, whose characteristics are given, has been tried to be examined with the elements of human-culture-space in the perspective of cultural geography
