Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to compare and contrast adult and elderly hemodialysis-treated patients with end stage renal disease using multiple specific malnutrition screening tools, nutritional index and anthropometry and to determine the best possible risk of age-specific malnutrition. Based on Malnutrition Inflammation Score (MIS), a special screening tool for dialysis patients. The study was carried out with 140 patients (n=70 adult, n=70 elder) who were treated for hemodialysis between March-June. General information from all participants in the study was obtained through a questionnaire, and biochemical data were obtained retrospectively, and anthropometry and MIS were examined. In addition 7-Point Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and Nutritional Risk Index (NRI) in the adult group, Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA) and Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) were calculated in the elderly group. In the adult group, 57.1% malnutrition risk was observed according to MIS, 24.3% mildly and moderately malnourished according to 7-Point SGA and 44.3% different stage malnutrition according to NRI. In the elderly group, malnutrition risk was observed in 67.1% according to MIS, malnutrition risk in 62.9% and severe malnutrition in 8.6% according to MNA, and different stage malnutrition in 38.3% according to GNRI. In the ROC analysis based on MIS, the 7-Point SGA in adults and GNRI in the elderly were found to have the highest concistency in predicting malnutrition. Although screening tools can be used in dialysis patients, the use of MIS may be a priority because it is both practical and more sensitive for malnutrition.
