Abstract (EN)

As a result of the modernization movements engendered by Reformation, attempts were made to renovate the educational system and institutions were launched to provide modern education. Subjects related to literary composition and rhetoric were placed in the curriculum of these new schools. Many textbooks were printed due to the need for new books to the teach these classes. The subject of our work, Usul-i Kitabet ve Hitabet is also a product of these attempts. There has not been a comprehensive study of the Usul-i Kitabet ve Hitabet so far, nor has it been transcribed into the current alphabet. The aim of this dissertation is to present the contents of the above-mentioned work, besides revealing its role and importance in terms of literary history. The works is comprised of two parts. The first part, which is about literary composition, provides definitions and classifications regarding writing letters and information about the types of writing. The second part is comprised of definitions regarding rhetoric and rules of rhetoric This study is the review and translation of Mehmet Rifat's Usûl-i Kitâbet ve Hitâbet. The thesis contains from three parts which are the introduction, three body parts and conclusion. In the introduction section, thr term belâgat is emphasized and information about its historical development is given. The first chapter consists of the life and work of Manastırlı Mehmet Rıfat with general information and his views on language and litareture. In the second part, Usûl-i Kitâbet ve Hitâbet is introduced and examined in terms of form and content. The third chapter contains the translated text of the work and the method followedat this stage. After that, the bibliography and conclusion part are given.
