A research on the general profile of dairy enterprises in Manavgat district

SUMMARYA Research on the General Profile of Dairy Enterprises in Manavgat DistrictThis study was carried out to determine some characteristics of the housingsystems used in dairy enterprises in Manavgat and also socio-economic factorseffecting farmers adoption level of innovations.The material of the study was 62 dairy enterprises in Manavgat. Due to theresults of study on general characteristics of the housing systems, it was determinedthat all of them are closed types, in 27 of the housing systems brick was used as wallmaterial. The housing systems entrance was determined as southeast at % 30.65 ofhousing system. On a large scale of the housing systems (%87.10) it was determinedthat milking are still with hands. Use of concrete and asbestos cement in housingsystems for roof material was %79.03. In this study also socio-economics factoreffecting adoption of innovations in dairy enterprises in Manavgat was determined.In this study the effects of automatic water dispensers, milking machines, scales ofenterprises, education level, family type, empathy, communication facilities, workexperience and living standards were investigated. It was determined that theseinnovations were adopted %96.2 by small scale enterprises, medium scale enterpriseswere adopt innovations only %3.8. The family type of enterprises on a large scale(%67.74) was determined as small family. %50 of the farmer?s has the empathyability. It was determined that only %6.45 of the farmers used professionalpublications as communication facility. Most of the family (%91.95) was found tohave medium scale living standards. %93.55 of farmers was found to be experiencedand it was determined that about %93.55 of the farmers was only graduated atprimary school. %74.19 of the farmers investigated in this study were found to bemiddle-aged and %95.16 of the dairies were found to be medium scale productive. Itwas revealed that %62.90 of the enterprise was found as small scale (1-10 animal),%37.10 of the enterprises was found as medium scale (11-40 animal). About housingsystems investigated in Manavgat it was concluded that barns were insufficient andhave lots of mistakes. It was also concluded that farmers have low level adoption rateand should be informed about housing systems of dairy cattle.
