Evaluation of the relationship of impacted TEETH in the mandible with surrounding structures by dental volumetric tomography and panoramic radiography

Abstract (EN)
Objective: Panoramic radiography and dental volumetric tomography are used in dentistry to evaluate the position of impacted teeth and their relationship with adjacent anatomical formations. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship of impacted teeth in the mandible with adjacent teeth and surrounding anatomical structures on both panoramic radiography and dental volometric tomography images. Materials and Methods: In this study, dental volumetric tomography and panoramic radiography images of 150 patients who applied to Dicle University Faculty of Dentistry between 2015-2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The radiographs examined, the prevalence and location of impacted teeth detected in the mandible, their relationship with adjacent teeth and surrounding anatomical structures were evaluated using panoramic radiography and dental volumetric tomography. The relevant data were analyzed with the licensed IBM SPSS 21 package program and Microsoft Excel program Results: In the study, 206 impacted teeth detected in the radiographs of 150 patients, 70 female and 80 male, were evaluated. The classifications in which 173 GAUMDs are most frequently observed are vertical with 41.04%, class B 50.87% and class 2 with 68.79%.IAC was observed in the inferior position at a rate of 71.68%, and no bone septum was observed between the GAUMD root and the root in 50.87%. The GAUMD root is in contact with the lingual cortical bone with a rate of 23.7%, and there is perforation in ٪8.67 lingual bone. A statistically significant difference was found between dental volumetric tomography and panoramic radiography images of IAC position, the relationship of the tooth with the lingual bone, distal caries observed in the second molar tooth, and dental volumetric tomography and panoramic radiography images in which ECR were examined(p<0.05). İmpacted canines were located more frequently in the buccal and 6 of 14 teeth were in contact with the incisive canal. The position of impacted premolars and supernumerary premolars is more frequently in the lingual, the second molars are frequently inclined mesially and without contact with the IAC. Conclusıon: Impacted teeth in the mandible are associated with surrounding anatomical structures. Impacted teeth should be routinely followed up with panoramic radiography and diagnosed with 3D dental volumetric tomography in risky cases.
