The role of family support and coherence in the relationship between spiritual well-being and family satisfaction

The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating roles of family support and family sense of coherence between spiratual well-being and family satisfaction. Four-hundred and nine married adults including two-hundred and thirtyfive mothers (57,5 %) and one-hundred seventyfour fathers (42,5 %), who have been living in Aydın's Efeler district, have at least one childhood, have been married for ten years or more, participated the study. The descriptive-relational design was used in the research. The Spiritual Well-Being Scale, the Family Life Satisfaction Scale, the Perceived Social Support from Family Scale, the Family Sense of Coherence Scale-Short Form and the Personal Information Form were used in the research as data collection tools. Conditional Process Analysis was used to analyze the hypothesis model of the research, which was examined with a regression approach after correlation analysis. According to the research results, statistically significant relationships were found between spiritual well-being, family satisfaction, family support and family sense of coherence. According to finding spiritual well-being positively explains family satisfaction. There are partial mediating roles of family support and family sense of coherence between spiratual well-being and family satisfaction. This shows that family support and family sense of coherence indirectly contribute to the effect of spiritual well-being on family satisfaction. In psychoeducation and intervention programs that can be prepared for families in the field of family education or counseling, studies aimed at increasing family support and family sense of coherence, which are determined to be effective on family satisfaction, can be conducted in this research. Subsequent research can also examine the effect of spiritual well-being on variables related to family relationships, marriage-related variables or variables related to romantic relationships.
