Determination of the professional values and the levels of empathic tendencies of Manisa Celal Bayar University midwifery students

Aim: This study was done to determine the Professional values and the levels of empathic tendencies of Manisa Celal Bayar Unıversıty midwifery students. Materials and Methods: The study is a cross-sectional study conducted with 171 third and fourth grade midwifery students studying at Manisa Celal Bayar University Faculty of Health Sciences in the 2021-2022 academic year. The data of the study were collected using the 'Descriptive Information Form', the 'Empathic Tendency Scale' and the 'Professional Values of Midwives Scale'. Data were collected by sharing Google forms online questionnaires in online student groups. Number, percentage and t test values of research data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 statistical program. Results: Midwifery students; empathic tendency scale mean score was 70.24±9.51 and professional values of midwives scale mean score was 125,62±33,92. In the study, it was determined that there was a moderately significant positive correlation between the average scores of the midwifery students' empathic tendency scale and the midwife's professional values scale averages. It was found that midwifery students' class, academic achievement perception status, high school they graduated from, income status, father's education status, preference for midwifery department and the effect of midwifery education on the profession affect the empathic tendency scale mean score and it was statistically significantly higher (p<0, 05). It was found that midwifery students' age, academic achievement perception status, and the reason for choosing the midwifery department affected the midwife's professional values, the scale score average, and was statistically significantly higher (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that the empathic disposition and professional values of midwifery students were at a good level.
